Summary: This position is to join the Clinical Yarning Project team working to train health
professionals and health students in Clinical Yarning, to communicate better with Aboriginal patients
and, with the Clinical Yarning team, undertake research to evaluate the effects of the program.
Training in the Clinical Yarning approach will be provided. Support to undertake research will also be
provided which could include data collection, organisation of data, data analysis, and writing results.

  • Casual position with flexible hours available (minimum 2 days equivalent/week – to fulltime)
  • Salary level and remuneration dependent on experience
  • Based in Geraldton. Some travel within Midwest may be required
  • Aboriginality is considered a genuine occupational qualification for this role as per Section 50D Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA)

About the opportunity: As the Clinical Yarning Aboriginal Researcher/Training Officer you will:

  •  Lead the delivery of the cultural aspects of the Clinical Yarning training program
  • assist with organising training and co-deliver training with other WACRH staff
  • coordinate/liaise with the Community Advisory group
  • assist with research/training evaluation

You will work with the team on research which goes alongside the Clinical Yarning training.

This involves:

  • Assisting with the preparation/organisation of research e.g. liaising with Community
  • Undertake data collection and analysis
  • Maintaining confidentiality and adherence to ethical guidelines
  • Recording results and presenting to researchers and to other key stakeholders
  • Contributing to team discussions and other activities

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:
- Relevant qualifications or an equivalent combination of experience and/or training
- Familiarity with using computer applications e.g. MS word, Outlook
- Relevant experience and knowledge in Aboriginal community liaison, cultural sensitivity and
demonstrated ability to work effectively with Aboriginal people
- Effective communication skills with diverse groups of people including community members,
health professionals and health services, and community organisations.
- Organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
