Background

Podiatry access is limited in rural and remote locations, making health workers and nurses integral in early detection and timely referral to prevent complications and possible amputations. Through WACRH's research arm, work has been progressed on the development of an on-line tool with integrated risk rating. The training is based around the use of this development.

Flinders Chronic Condition Management Program™ Workshop

The Flinders Program™ chronic care philosophy and tools present an assessment, planning and motivational process which has been applied to chronic medical or mental health conditions and co-morbidities. The Flinders Program™ encourages health practitioners to support their patients to effectively manage their symptoms and the effects of their conditions over the long-term by adopting and maintaining behaviours that can delay disease development or progression.

Teaching on the Run workshops

TOTR is a staff development package aimed at improving teaching and supervision in a clinical setting and includes six foundation workshops which will be delivered by the Westren Australian Centre for Rural Health (WACRH). The program is designed to:
• Build up confidence in applying the principles of teaching adults in the everyday work situation
• Help clinical teachers plan for, and recognise opportunities for teaching in the clinical setting
• Help clinicians to provide effective feedback
• Provide strategies that support good supervision and learner support
• Build clinicians confidence in their ability as teachers
• Encourage sharing of ideas and networking among clinical teachers that can enhance their practice
Participants to the TOTR program should already have teaching experience; this program seeks to build on current teaching practice.
